Evernote is a way to get organized. It is a great, free resource that allows you to easily capture information using whatever device or operating system you use. It then makes this information accessible and searchable from anywhere. Their tagline: “Remember Everything.” It is a digital notebook that allows you to take text notes, clip web pages, upload images and files, and much more.
You can capture task lists, notes, web pages, white boards, business cards, pictures, and even clip web pages or parts of webpages to Evernote.
It is easy to use, very powerful, and there are plenty of places to get help using it.
You can download a desktop version of the software, for free, which will sync to the Evernote web server, or you can just access it through the internet on their web page. The desktop software can also export your Evernote data in multiple formats. You can also access it through a mobile device.
They have downloadable mobile applications for Android, iOS, HP/Palm webOS, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile devices. The Android and iOS apps let you sync data on your device also. The desktop version of the software is available for Windows and Mac and there are browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Safari.

Android App:
I use the desktop version at home and the office, the Android app on my HTC One smartphone, my tablets, web version on my Chromebook. The desktop version sync's all of the data to your computer (good for backup) and you can also export your notes in a variety of formats for backup.
You can create new notes via desktop, web, or mobile version. You can also use your camera phone or web cam to take a snapshot and Evernote can even recognize the text in the image. This is very useful for capturing signs, posters, printed memos, and more and then being able to search for text inside the image.
You can upload attachments to your notes in Evernote to keep documents organized with the notes they go with. If you want to make sure that attached files are kept up to date, you can just modify them from Evernote. Simply right-click on the attached file in Evernote, choose “open with” and the software that you want to use, make the changes and then hit “save” and Evernote will automatically be updated with the latest version of the file. This works for images, PDFs, PowerPoint, Excel, Word and more.
You can also email notes, clip web pages, record audio notes, and scan papers, receipts and more into Evernote. Evernote web clippers are available for Chrome, Safari and Firefox and you can even add one onto your own website.
I love Evernote. I use it for everything. Lesson plans, lesson schedules, notes, web clippings, lesson resources, travel notes and much more. I can access it on any computer and from my smartphone. I can even share notes and notebooks with other people (like my students). It is an indispensable app for me. I have my notes organized by topic and I have reference notes, lesson plans, tech tips, and much more on here. What I really love, is that I can access my notes from any internet enabled computer or smartphone. I also like the ability to "clip" web sites into a note in Evernote. What's great, is that hyperlinks on the web page are kept when clipped into Evernote. You can also attach files to your notes. Free accounts can only attach images (JPEG/PNG/GIF), audio (MP3, WAV, AMR), PDF, and digital ink files. UPDATED: The account type restrictions for uploading were removed. Once again Evernote surprises the users with great things. I try to convert most of my files to PDF for cross-platform support. You can also share notes and notebooks with others.
Does it Cost Money?
Yes and No. There is a free version that is very, very powerful and there is a Premium version that adds more upload memory and more features.
All accounts have a limit of 100,000 notes. I have been using Evernote for years and use it for nearly everything and only have 6400 notes. In the free account, each note has a maximum file size of 25MB while the Premium users have a 100MB limit.
Free accounts have a 60MB upload allowance per month and Premium accounts have a 1024 MB upload allowance. There are no limits to the amount of data you have stored in your account, just how much you can upload each month. I have a Premium account, but most users will only need the free account. I rarely go above 60MB a month myself.
Evernote Premium gives you bigger upload capacity, offers greater sharing options, gives you access to note history, and more. Plus, you get PDF searching, faster image recognition, and no ads. All for just $5.00 per month or $45.00 per year. There are also group discounts and education accounts for schools and districts.
How Can I use Evernote as a Teacher, Student, Administrator?
Evernote is an excellent resource for education. Teachers can use it for meeting notes, research, lesson plans, task lists, lesson resources, references, and much more. Students can use it to take notes in class, organize their homework, research and projects, and make a list of things to do.

Administrators can make notes, task lists, organize resources, create agendas and procedures and share them with their staff, and so much more.
Evernote is my main lesson and resource organizational tool. I have notebooks setup for lesson plans and lesson resources, along with notebooks for things to do, things to research, and things to share. My lesson plan notes are set up by unit and have the objectives, links, resources, and attached files (like handouts and lab packets). I also have notes setup by week that I use to keep track of where each class is and to schedule my plans out. I can easily share resources and information with my students or colleagues. I have notebooks for faculty meeting notes, ideas for future lessons, Android tips and resources, technology support, and personal notebooks for financial notes and account information, recipes, travel plans, and much more.
I really like the web clipper function since I want to save a lot of different things from web sites, but I don’t want to save the whole site. With the clipper, I can select what to save to Evernote. I can also add tags and search for this information later.
You can also use Evernote as a book mark tool, as Richard Byrne does.
My lesson plan notebook has my schedule for each week with what I am going to do in each class, each day. I also have notes with my unit and lesson plans, links to other resources, notes, and I have attached the files I use with each class. I also have notes with my unit objectives and unit plans.

Evernote is very useful, easy to use, platform independent, constantly improved and updated and FREE. It is one of those tools that once you start using it, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.
